Schools Award

Best Business: St Catherine’s Primary School, SheffieldNumber of students:
Four Personalised PE t-shirts Profit made: £74.24
These students
personalised PE t-shirts for pupils and staff, featuring their favourite TV
personality so they could also wear them at home. Their prices started at 50p so anyone could afford to buy them. They also
sold juice drinks at play time.
The judges recognised that the business idea was a strong one, and that it had
also been designed to benefit others. The young entrepreneurs encouraged customers to recycle old t-shirts when buying a personalised
t-shirt, sold sugar free juice as part of a healthy schools initiative and donated profits to charities, including the Haiti
Earthquake disaster fund.
The students commented “We had to give up playtimes and get really organised but
we didn’t mind and lots of people bought the drinks each day. We had difficulties ironing some of the logos on and had
to re-do some but these problems were overcome in the end. The idea was very popular and caught on quickly!! We are really
impressed with the profit we made.”
